If you are like me and looking for ways to eat healthier and save at the same time, then you’ll love this copycat “Bisquick” mix!
It takes just minutes to make, is cheaper than buying the Bisquick brand and it doesn’t have any ingredients that you don’t recognize or can’t pronounce.
On top of all that, we actually like the things I make with this homemade mix better than when I made them with the Bisquick brand! Definitely a win all around!

How long can this be stored?
Lydia Beiler
It should keep for several months, assuming the baking powder you use isn’t close to going out of date. I’ve had it in my fridge for at least 3 months, probably closer to 4 and it’s been fine. You could also freeze part of it. I often make a double batch and then freeze half of it.

I would love to make this recipe. How much whole wheat flour can you use? I didn’t know if you meant a small amount, or half white, half wheat. Looks good and I am going to try it!
Lydia Beiler
Great question! I have never made it with more than half whole wheat flour. You probably could use all whole wheat, but depending what you use the Bisquick mix for, you will notice a difference in texture and the final results of what you are making.

Call me crazy, but I grew up on making biscuits homemade from scratch every time, so have no knowledge of Bisquick normal recipes. How do you use this to make biscuits? I made it and used for your Deep Dish Taco Squares (yum!) but wanted to use it to make biscuits.

So very excited to try this out. I’m going to try the shelf stable version. How long do you think this would last on the shelf?
Lydia Beiler
The shelf stable version should last as long as the expiration date of the baking powder or the shortening (whichever is the shortest date).

Can you substitute butter or shortening with a something more healthier. Like olive oil?
Lydia Beiler
Olive oil would be a very different texture as it’s pure liquid, so I really don’t think it would work. The only other thing that might work is coconut oil, as it is solid and more butter like in texture. Obviously, it will change the taste a bit though too, and depending what you making, you may not care for that hint of coconut.

What do you do with the butter?
Lydia Beiler
Nancy, follow the first step of the recipe and cut the butter into the dry ingredients. If you aren’t sure what cutting in butter means, this might help.
