UPDATE FALL 2018: Sadly, Zaycon Fresh was forced to go out of business due to some unfortunate circumstances that are too complicated to go into here.
I can’t tell you how often I’ve had readers comment or email me and say that they wish there was some way that they could lower the amount of money that they spend on meat, since it tends to be one of their biggest grocery expenses. I am fortunate enough to live in an area where I can frequently get great deals on meat and rarely have to pay more than $2.00/lb. But I know many of you aren’t that lucky.
So, when I first heard about Zaycon Fresh (formerly Zaycon Foods) several years ago, I was really excited! Finally, I had a place to recommend to you all when you wondered where to buy cheap meat! I shared about it with you all and it has been so fun hearing from different of you saying how much you have enjoyed saving money with Zaycon.
But guess what? They just dropped their price lower than I’ve ever seen it before! Seriously. I got an email from them letting me know that they dropped their price and their boneless, skinless chicken breast is now just $1.69/lb.! I don’t think I have to tell you that is a really great price for meat! 🙂
SO, WHO IS ZAYCON FRESH?
Zaycon Fresh is a privately owned company founded in 2009 with the simple mission to bring farm fresh meats direct to consumers at wholesale prices. Because they cut out the middle man (ie: grocery store) they can keep their cost lower than what you’ll typically find. They have events all over the country where they deliver their products- you simply need to drive through and pick them up!
Zaycon Fresh has become well known for their quality meats. And more specifically for their fresh 100% natural chicken with no added hormones, additives or artificial ingredients. Their boneless, skinless chicken breast comes in 40 lb. boxes, but each box has three to four smaller bags of chicken it, making it very easy to split your order with someone else if you are worried that you won’t be able to use the whole 40 lbs. yourself.
HOW DOES ZAYCON FRESH WORK?
I’ve had the opportunity to use Zaycon Fresh three times so far and was super impressed with my experience each of those times. Ordering was so simple; I simply went to their website, set up an account and found an event in my area. Then I placed my order and paid online, so that the day of the event I could just sail through the pick up line!
The last time I got to the location of the pickup for my event about 5 minutes after it started. The delivery men were ready and waiting as I drove up and all that I needed to do was roll down my window, give them my name and open the rear hatch of my minivan. After laying down a plastic trash bag to catch any leaks (there were none!), they loaded up my chicken and in a matter of a couple of minutes I was on my way again! I was more than happy to not have to get out of my car and the whole process was much easier than going to the grocery store with 2 little children in tow!
Once I arrived back home, I got to work processing the chicken. I froze some breasts whole, cooked some meat and froze it and then canned the rest. There was a little bit of fat to trim off of some of the pieces but overall, I was impressed with the quality of the meat. We’ve enjoyed it numerous times since and it has great flavor!
HOW CAN I BUY CHEAP MEAT FROM ZAYCON FRESH?
If you are interested in ordering from Zaycon, head to their website and set up an account. They typically have chicken events happening several times throughout the year. So by signing up now, you’ll be alerted when they start their next sales.

Very good information – I will have to look into it. Thanks for sharing. Visiting from Raising Homemaker Link Up.

Glad if it can help, Rebecca! I know we all are always looking for ways to trim our every growing grocery budgets.

Well, I placed an order today! And several friends are interested in ordering, too. Thanks again for posting about the sale!
ThriftyFrugalMom
Awesome! And if you have friends that want to order, be sure to give them your referral link so that you can earn credits for a future order. 🙂

I had never heard of them before today. I’ll have to check out their site!
ThriftyFrugalMom
I hope they are in your area, Lisa! When I first started using them several years ago, they were mostly in just bigger cities. But they are slowly growing and slowly reaching more areas, which I think is awesome.

Thanks for the info. I love the idea of getting my meat fresh from the farm without having to go to the farm. Reminds me of the days when my parents used to get fresh milk delivered to our front porch. Oh, did I just age myself! Thanks again, will definitely use them when I move to Virginia this summer.
ThriftyFrugalMom
You are welcome, Maria! Ah, my dad tells stories of helping his father deliver milk back when he was a boy. I think it would be fun to have milk delivered fresh from the farm. We are lucky enough to have a farm that we can get it from which is almost as good!

Little sketchy for me and my family. I like to be able to hold someone accountable for the products I buy. Not sure I’d get that from the back of a random truck.
ThriftyFrugalMom
Megan, I hear what you are saying, and I realize that this way of buying things is rather different than normal. Honestly, I was a bit skeptical at first too! But here’s the thing, you aren’t really buying meat from a random truck. Zaycon stands behind their products and offers a 30 day refund policy. And you also might appreciate knowing that they have an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau. Maybe it still doesn’t feel like a good option for your family- only you can know that! But I thought that information might help you understand their company a bit more.

I ordered a case and will be picking it up in June. They are packaged in bulk which helps keep costs down. I’m excited to get mine!
ThriftyFrugalMom
Yay, glad you were able to save! I’m getting a case in June too. 🙂

I just heard about Zaycon a few months ago for the first time through One Hundred Dollars a Month, but usually their meat is still a little too expensive for me – I tend to eat a lot of beans and eggs for that reason. 🙂 However, this really is a good price for chicken, so I’m probably going to pitch in with my mom for a case. I’ll be sure to use your referral link if I do! 🙂
