Ingredients
CAKE:
1c.flour
⅓c.sugar(see Notes below)
2tbsp.cocoa powder
2tsp.baking powder
¼tsp.Salt
½c.milk
2tbsp.butter, melted
SAUCE:
¼c.sugar
½c.brown sugar
⅓c.cocoa powder
2c.boiling water
Instructions
In a mixing bowl, combine the cake ingredients and mix until smooth.
Spread the batter evenly in a greased 8x8 inch, 9x9 inch. or 2 qt. baking dish.
Combine the topping ingredients; spread evenly over the batter. Gently pour the hot/boiling water over all. DO NOT STIR!
Bake at 350 degrees for 35-40 minutes, or until the top looks fully baked.
Serve warm, with ice cream, milk or whipped cream if desired.
Notes
SWEETNESS: This is very rich and chocolatey and not super sweet. If you prefer a dessert that fairly sweet, you can increase the sugar in the cake to ⅔ c. instead of the ⅓ c. listed in the recipeREHEATING: This recipe is best served right away as the sauce becomes thicker and absorbs into the cake a bit as it sets. However, it’s still delicious reheated, just slightly less saucy.
